Reference - Bibliographic and information service department offers its readers timely and accurate information through traditional library service, automatic data base and Internet. The department manages data base of analytical descriptions of articles from books and collections. It also offers the following services:

• - producing written thematic bibliographic inquiries for different organizations, institutes, specialists, graduates, and post-graduate students;
• - other inquiries and bibliographic consultations
• - information search in Internet
• - lectures on bibliographic matters

History department was established in 1965. Its activities involve searching, collecting, processing, keeping and popularizing of historical materials. It helps specialists and students in their regional research. It provides its readers with information about the historical past and present of their native town, the national traditions and cultural heritage, preserved through the centuries. The historical fund consists of over 3000 books, brochures, periodicals, formal and small publications, other information resources and photographs. The historical card -index includes annotated bibliographic information, as well as automatic data base with over 36 000 records of information about events, facts and people from Shumen and the Shumen region. It makes written thematic bibliographic inquiries. Recommended bibliographic indexes, bio-bibliographic documents, and recommended lists of anniversaries of people and events, connected with Shumen can be issued in the department.

The Digital Studio department was established in November 2006. It was set up after the Municipality of Shumen won the project – “The Preservation of historical documents” on the SPA program – support for small projects of the Peace Corps, financed by the American Agency for international development. Over 1500 books of the library fund, as well as a big number of newspapers, published in 19th century will be transformed into digital format at the studio. The purpose is storing the old editions and providing the readers with an instant access to the necessary information.
The good technology we have and the highly-qualified specialists helped in the publishing activity of the library. We did the pre-publishing preparation of bibliographic documents and other editions, results of our team’s efforts.
